Dales Woodland Restoration
This project involved the planting of approximately 40 acres (around 21,000 trees) of new native broadleaf woodland on a site of a conifer plantation that was felled during 2010/11.
The woodland is close to a known Black Grouse lecking (breeding) site and is also within the Garsdale and Mallerstang Red Squirrel area buffer zone, so the species mix and planting plan have been developed to maximise habitat benefits for both. The Dales Way footpath runs through the site so access is good - though please do not venture off the footpath as the woodland is in private ownership.
