Dales Wildflower Meadows

Your Living Bouquet gifts are helping to save one of the most scarce and threatened habitats in Britain – beautiful wildflower hay meadows.

The Yorkshire Dales contain about a sixth of the UK’s remaining upland hay meadows. These precious and complex habitats are teeming with up to 120 species of wild flowers and grasses per field. They are home to many rare species of wildlife, plants like the Globeflower, endangered animals like the Brown Hare, and provide a vital habitat for bumblebees and other pollinators.

If you’ve ever seen a wildflower meadow in full bloom, you’ll also agree they are a beautiful spectacle.

Since 2006 the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has been working to conserve and restore flowery hay meadows and protect the wildlife they support. Meadow restoration is a long-term process, involving working closely with farmers and contractors to deliver the practical conservation work. Our work has also included educational work in schools and hundreds of public events to raise awareness. Read more about the Hay Time project.

With your help we hope to continue and grow this work, to expand our hay meadow resource in the Dales and in nearby areas like the Forest of Bowland, and to ensure beautiful hay meadows are around for our children to enjoy.
