Case Studies

Here are just a few examples of how our business partnerships work.

Yorkshire Cottages

The holiday cottage specialist Yorkshire Cottages has been a supporter of YDMT since 2006, having donated £16,400 towards our work to date to support a range of projects that benefit the Yorkshire Dales area.

Catherine Smith at Yorkshire Cottages, said:
“We feel passionately that the Yorkshire Dales is a very special place and we want to support the important work YDMT does. For local residents, the many visiting tourists and indeed the world as a whole, it is vital that the area is looked after and that the wonderful diversity of plant and animal life isn’t allowed to disappear.”

Staff at Yorkshire Cottages have also been generous with their time, volunteering to help us collect wildflower seeds to grow plug plants for meadow restoration, and donning their boots to help us plant trees. We're also very grateful to the team for sharing some of their technical expertise to help us run an online photography competition. Since the first competition in 2013, this has become a popular annual event, helping us to bring together a collection of fantastic images that showcase the region for our Yorkshire Dales calendar each year.

Sinclairs

Andrew Howard, Managing Director of Sinclairs stationery manufacturer, one of YDMT's earliest supporters, says,
“We take our responsibility for the environment very seriously and we are pleased to have supported the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust for many years. We have helped the Trust to plant more trees in the Yorkshire Dales and at the same time encouraged our consumers to use our environmentally conscious range of notebooks and pads”.

Sinclairs 'plant-a-tree' campaign helped to promote their new FSC notebook range and resulted in a £2,000 donation towards woodland planting in the Dales.

Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants

We were delighted to be the 2011-2012 charity partner of Yorkshire-based Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants.

Brian van Oosten, General Manager of The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & Spa, commented
“Having made huge efforts to improve our environmental policy over the past year; we are excited to make use of the wealth of knowledge that the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has to offer - and of course to help raise money for such a worthy cause.”

The Fuelcard Company

YDMT's partnership with The Fuelcard Company, one of the UK’s largest commercial fuel card resellers, has been helping to promote greener driving since 2011.

The Fuelcard Company’s EcoPoint scheme allows customers to donate money each month towards tree planting. The scheme has raised a total over £10,000 to date, making a vital contribution towards YDMT's woodland restoration work.

The Fuelcard Company and its customers will make a continued contribution to woodland restoration over the coming years, supporting efforts to double the amount of broadleaf woodland in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, bringing long term benefits for the environment, wildlife and landscape of the Dales.

"As a business committed to a greener future, we are always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and that of our customers; EcoPoint enables our customers to enjoy all the cost-saving benefits of their fuel card as well as being secure in the knowledge they’re playing their part in protecting the environment."

Cottage in the Dales

A supporter of the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust for many years, Cottage in the Dales run a very successful promotion where every customer who makes a return booking receives a personal tree dedication. The promotion has helped to increase the number of customers booking return trips, as well as enabling us to plant many new native broadleaf trees in the area.

Diane Howarth, owner of Cottage in the Dales, says:
“Our customers love the fact that they are doing something to benefit the local environment. Having a tree dedicated to them in the Dales can also be a very touching gesture.”

As a partner of Donate to the Dales, Cottage in the Dales has shown a commitment to the local environment that has helped them to gain several green tourism accreditations, most recently being shortlisted as a finalist in the self-catering category of the prestigious Green Tourism Business Scheme GOLDSTAR Awards 2013!
