Lesley Garrett, CBE
Britain’s most popular soprano talks about why she loves the Yorkshire Dales.
“Recently I was re-acquainted with my favourite Dale, Swaledale, when I
took part in ITV's "My Favourite View". I fell in love with the Dales
all over again and this prompted me to take my children on a "bouldering
trip" to Calderdale - they can't wait to go back!
Dales through my children's eyes has made me realise how vital it is for
all children to be inspired by this beautiful part of the world. I am
proud to have been asked to become a Patron of the Yorkshire Dales
Millennium Trust, who are dedicated to enabling children without the
means to visit this stunning part of our country."
Paul is the weatherman for BBC Yorkshire and a much-loved personality in the region.
"I have always enjoyed the Dales. I have family who still live at Linton
Falls near Grassington, and many a happy day has been spent in
Wharfedale. I spent four years living in Knaresborough and often went
walking in Nidderdale. I’m delighted to be an Ambassador for the
Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and proud to support the work they do
to maintain this special area for the enjoyment of all.
assistance from the People’s Postcode Lottery will help YDMT to continue
the good work, enabling local people to achieve practical projects
which will enhance the Dales for future generations."
Actor Simon, who played the legendary Jack Meadows in “The Bill”, is proud of his Yorkshire roots and thrilled with the support that the People’s Postcode Lottery are giving to the area:
“I was born and grew up in Bradford so Yorkshire will always be a
special place for me. The happiest days of my childhood were spent
camping at the foot of Simons Seat in Appletreewick. It’s great to hear
how much YDMT are doing to help the landscape and communities in the
Dales and also to know that, with the assistance of the People’s
Postcode Lottery, YDMT are giving people from inner cities the
opportunity to enjoy this unique part of the world.”
Former star of ITV's Emmerdale, actor Tom says:
“I’ve grown up in the Dales and have been in and around them all my
life. To see those places kept in their natural beauty for people to
enjoy in different ways, I think is the most important thing. The more
we can preserve and look after this wonderful landscape the better. I
wouldn’t change living here for the world. The Yorkshire Dales
Millennium Trust, together with funding from the People’s Postcode
Lottery, is doing so much to enhance and preserve this very special
area, and I am happy to give them my full support.”
